DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia (UNG) women's basketball team fell 72-63 to Reinhardt in a non-conference matchup at Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center Friday night. Despite a 43-31 advantage on the glass, the Nighthawks were unable to erase an early deficit.
North Georgia's lone lead came with 1:18 remaining in the first quarter, but Reinhardt controlled the remainder of the opening period. The Eagles limited UNG to eight points in the second quarter and carried a 35-25 advantage into halftime.
The Nighthawks mounted a push in the third quarter, outscoring Reinhardt 23-16. Zaynah Preston and Maddie Millar delivered key baskets as North Georgia trimmed the deficit to three entering the final period.
Reinhardt maintained its edge in the fourth quarter by converting at the free-throw line, holding off the Nighthawks down the stretch.
Preston led North Georgia with 17 points and five assists, while Hannah Cail recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
With the loss, UNG moved to 9-5 overall.
I'ziah McCutchins paced Reinhardt (9-5) with 21 points.
The Nighthawks return to action Dec. 30 hosting Brenau in a non-conference contest in Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center at 5:30 p.m.
