EDINBORO, Pa. - A hot shooting night from beyond the arc and four players scoring in double figures powered the No. 4 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's basketball team to an 86-75 victory over Edinboro on Saturday evening inside McComb Fieldhouse as part of the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic.

Averie Jones led the way with a game-high 23 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including five three-pointers, while
Caroline Martin added 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Hannah Cail chipped in 13 points and four assists, and
Maddie Millar provided a spark off the bench with eight points in just eight minutes.

North Georgia (1-1) connected on 13-of-28 (46%) from three-point range and finished 19-for-23 (83%) at the free throw line. The Nighthawks also outrebounded the Fighting Scots 37-25 and recorded 16 assists on 27 made field goals.

After taking a 19-16 edge through the first quarter, North Georgia exploded for 24 points in the second to build a 43-36 halftime lead. Jones and Cail combined for five triples in the frame as UNG's perimeter shooting broke open the game. The Nighthawks extended their advantage to double digits in the third quarter behind a 25-18 margin and held off a late Edinboro push in the fourth to secure the team's first win of the season.

Kendall Emener and
Ava McGlockton each tallied six points and five rebounds, while
Riley Simmons contributed five boards and three assists in 22 minutes of action.

Edinboro (0-2) was paced by Taylor Blunt's 18 points and Samantha Baker's 12, but the Fighting Scots couldn't overcome UNG's 56 percent shooting clip from long range in the two middle quarters.
North Georgia will wrap up play at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic at No. 5 Gannon at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon.
