MORROW, Ga. – The University of North Georgia (UNG) men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat on the road at Clayton State (CSU) Wednesday night.
The Nighthawks fell to 3-3-4 (2-1-1 Peach Belt) on the season with their first conference loss of the year.
UNG fell behind in the game early on Wednesday after a 13th-minute goal from Manoel Neto put the Lakers ahead 1-0.
CSU held the one-goal lead into the second half before adding to it with another goal from Sonny Simpson in the 74th minute.
The Nighthawks finally got on the board with a goal in the 80th minute from junior midfielder
Isaac Calderon.
Calderon received a speedy corner kick from junior forward
Valen Bargagna. He received the ball just inside the penalty box on the near side with plenty of space as UNG had caught the Lakers off guard.
Calderon fired an absolute rocket into the back of the net for his second goal of the season to make it 2-1.
While the Nighthawks continued the impressive comeback effort, CSU eventually sealed the game with a third goal in the 89th minute.
Now UNG will return home to face a tough opponent in No. 24 Flagler on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m.
