ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – In its third consecutive match against a ranked opponent, the No. 10 University of North Georgia men's tennis team fell on the road 5-2 against No. 2 Flagler. With the loss, the Nighthawks fell to 10-4 overall this season with a 2-1 mark in Peach Belt Conference play. UNG is 2-3 against ranked opponents this season.
The Nighthawks fell behind early in the match after losing the doubles point despite senior Joaquin Benoit and junior Robin Eldin winning the #1 doubles match 6-3 over ITA Men's doubles No. 17 pair Philipp Lemken and Simon Malis.
Benoit continued his success in singles play, taking the #1 match 6-2, 6-1 against ITA Men's singles No. 11 Jacopo Denito.
Flagler won the #2, #3, #4 and #5 singles matches to clinch the win.
No. 2 Baptiste Mercier battled with UNG's Giulio Sassi, emerging victorious 6-2, 7-5 in the #2 singles match.
Nighthawk sophomore Eliseo Alcalde did pick up a win for UNG in the #6 singles match with an 0-6, 6-3, 6-5 win over Flagler junior Makary Adamek.
UNG gets no relief from its stretch of quality opponents in the next match as the Nighthawks will face No. 25 Hawaii Pacific in Macon, Ga. on Friday, Apr. 12 at 2 p.m.
