AIKEN, S.C. — In its final regular season road match, the University of North Georgia women's soccer team handled USC Aiken, showing offensive firepower again, defeating the Pacers 6-0 in Peach Belt Conference action. The Nighthawks leaned on their depth, scoring six goals with six different goal scorers, finding four of those six in the second half.
Natalie Maguire kicked off the scoring early, finding a gem in the second minute off an assist from
Adleigh Wheeler to take a 1-0 lead. Another 37 minutes would pass before
Maysoon El-Shami added another one, stepping up to the penalty spot to make it a 2-0 game. El-Shami's goal would end the scoring in the first half as UNG went into the halftime break up two goals.
In the second half,
Nikki Gomez kept it rolling, scoring in the 55th minute for her third goal of the season and the Nighthawks' third goal of the game. The Gomez goal would open the floodgates and six minutes later, North Georgia would strike again, this time by way of
Arielle Aronoff in the 61st minute, with Wheeler adding another assist on the play.
Cat Watry made it a 5-0 lead in the 73rd minute, scoring her first of the season, before
Meghan O'Brien wrapped up all scoring in the 85th minute, ending things as the Nighthawks took the 6-0 victory, reaching the 10-win mark for the 13th consecutive full season.
Next is the first of three straight home games, taking on Georgia College on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 4:00 p.m. at the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park. GCSU holds a 7-5-2, defeating Tusculum 3-0 in its last time out.
