DAHLONEGA — Winning their third straight game and recording the tenth shutout of the season, the University of North Georgia women's soccer team defeated Georgia College 2-0 at the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park.
For the first 44 minutes of the opening half, it was a scoreless battle with both defenses standing tall before
Katey Derkay put North Georgia ahead, striking a ball in front of the goal and giving the Nighthawks a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
UNG did all their damage in a short span, following up the 44th-minute goal with a 45th-minute goal, scoring just moments into the second half to grab a 2-0 lead. This time,
Arielle Aronoff added to the lead off an assist from
Nikki Gomez, giving North Georgia a little cushion.
The Nighthawks back line proved sturdy again, allowing zero shots in the second half as UNG moved to 11-2-2 and remain unbeaten in Peach Belt Conference play. A home non-conference match and one final PBC matchup await as North Georgia will play Limestone on Wednesday (Oct. 25) at 5:00 p.m. in their next time out. Limestone holds a 3-8-1 record this season, tying Lincoln Memorial in their last game.
