Baseball Cracks Top-20; Highest National Ranking in Four Years

TUCSON, Ariz. | The University of North Georgia baseball team moved up to No. 19 in this week's Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division II Poll. It is the highest ranking for the Nighthawks this season and the first time UNG has made the Top-20 since March 14, 2011, when the team was ranked 11th in the nation by Collegiate Baseball.

The new ranking is seven spots up from last week when North Georgia was ranked 26th. The highest ranking of the season prior to this week was when the Nighthawks landed at No. 22 in the March 30 poll.

The move up was sparked by a perfect week for the Nighthawks on the diamond with two midweek wins against West Florida at home followed by a three-game sweep of rival Young Harris at Zell B. Miller Field this past weekend.

North Georgia is now 26-11 on the season and currently on a five game winning streak. The team's 18-6 record is the best in the Peach Belt as the Nighthawks hold a 1.5 game lead in the conference standings with six games remaining.

UNG is slated to host Anderson (S.C.) in a non-conference doubleheader (two seven-inning games) on Wednesday before taking the final road trip of the regular season, a PBC series at Francis Marion this Saturday and Sunday (April 18-19).
