DAHLONEGA - The No. 11 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance Friday, sweeping Carson-Newman 7-0 at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.
The Nighthawks (UNG) set the tone early by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
At the top spot, Juan Cruz Blanco and Pedro Liborio cruised to a 6-1 victory over Louis Keenan and Max Stollecker to open the afternoon. Franco Rebora and Marcos Castellanos followed with a 6-2 win at No. 3 against Wade Donovan and Giancarlo Rosario to clinch the doubles point. Lleyton Beasley and Ben Brandl were leading 4-2 at No. 2 before the match was abandoned.
In singles play, UNG continued its momentum with straight-set victories across the lineup. Blanco was first off the court at No. 4, rolling to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rosario. Liborio followed at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Keenan to give the Nighthawks a 3-0 advantage.
Rebora secured the team victory at No. 3, battling past Yassin Ali 6-2, 7-6 to clinch the match.
With the result decided, Beasley added a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5, Castellanos rallied for a three-set victory at No. 2 (3-6, 6-2, 6-4), and Eliseo Alcalde capped the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 6.
North Georgia returns to action March 9 against No. 16 Lee as the Nighthawks host the 3rd Annual Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase.
