BLUFFTON, S.C. – The No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team erupted for nine runs in the ninth inning to complete the comeback and defeat USC Beaufort 15-6 on Saturday, rallying from an early deficit to secure the series victory.
The Nighthawks trailed 6-3 entering the seventh inning before slowly chipping away. A sacrifice fly from Brady Skipper and a two-run single from Caleb Farr in the seventh tied the game at 6-6, setting the stage for North Georgia's explosive ninth inning.
The Nighthawks sent 12 batters to the plate in the final frame, scoring nine runs on five hits while taking advantage of a pair of Sand Shark errors and several walks.
Kyle Robitzsch started the rally with an RBI single to give North Georgia its first lead of the day. Brody Yeomans followed by reaching on an error that allowed another run to score before Schley Gordy added an RBI single through the left side. Cam Hodge and Jake Prince each drew bases-loaded walks to extend the lead.
Jake Streeter capped the inning with a towering grand slam to left field, pushing the North Georgia advantage to 15-6 and sealing the comeback victory.
Farr finished 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Nighthawks at the plate, while Streeter went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and four RBI. Yeomans added three RBI and Robitzsch drove in two runs.
On the mound, Evan Carter earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three. Kevin Cox started for North Georgia and worked seven innings, striking out six.
The Nighthawks will look to complete the series sweep when the two teams meet again Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
