BLUFFTON, S.C. – The No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team completed a series sweep of USC Beaufort on Sunday with a 15-5 victory, using early offensive power and a big day from Brody Yeomans to pull away from the Sand Sharks.
The Nighthawks wasted little time getting on the board, plating two runs in the first inning. Kyle Robitzsch opened the scoring with an RBI double down the right-field line that brought home Brady Skipper, and Yeomans followed with another double down the line to score Robitzsch and make it 2-0.
North Georgia extended the lead in the second as JD Coleman launched a two-run homer to left field, scoring Zach Aschoff. Robitzsch added his second RBI double of the game later in the inning to stretch the advantage to 5-0.
The Nighthawks kept the pressure on in the third. Jake Streeter lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score Hunter Thompson before Ben Hamacher drove in Aschoff with a single up the middle. Skipper added an RBI single later in the inning to give North Georgia an 8-0 lead.
USC Beaufort responded with four runs in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of an error and several hits to trim the deficit to 8-4.
North Georgia regained control in the sixth inning. Hamacher drew a bases-loaded walk to score Thompson, and Skipper followed with a sacrifice fly that brought home Aschoff to push the lead to 10-4.
After the Sand Sharks added a run in the bottom of the sixth, Yeomans delivered again in the seventh with a solo home run to right field.
The Nighthawks broke the game open in the eighth. Yeomans ripped a bases-clearing double to left-center that scored Robitzsch, Caleb Farr and Skipper. Aschoff followed with an RBI double down the right-field line to cap the scoring and extend the lead to 15-5.
Yeomans led the offensive effort, going 4-for-6 with five RBI, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Aschoff finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored, while Hamacher, Skipper and Thompson each collected three hits.
Andrew Duval earned the win for North Georgia, improving to 5-0 after allowing five runs on nine hits over five innings while striking out five. Ryan Taylor tossed two scoreless innings in relief, and Dylan Holbrook closed the game with a scoreless eighth.
