DAHLONEGA – Brody Yeomans drove home a career-high seven runs as the No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team completed the series sweep of Middle Georgia with a 14-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.
The Nighthawks (15-4, 8-1 PBC) excelled in all facets of the series, outscoring the Knights 44-12 across three run-rule victories.
North Georgia did not take long to get the scoring started, as Yeomans plated his first two RBI of the day with a single to right field to score Caleb Farr and Ben Hamacher in the bottom of the first.
After Andrew Duval took care of four Knight batters in the top of the second, UNG got back to work in the bottom of the inning. Two more runs came home off a single from Jake Streeter and a double from Hamacher to put North Georgia in front 4-0.
Middle Georgia came up with its first run of the day in the top of the third, but the Nighthawks answered with an RBI single from JD Coleman to again push the lead to four.
North Georgia's most successful inning came in the fourth, as the Nighthawks went through the entire batting order, plating four runs in the process.
In the bottom of the fifth, a sacrifice fly to centerfield from Schley Gordy scored Farr and put North Georgia in run-rule territory. Kyle Robitzsch and Yeomans tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning to cushion North Georgia's lead and put the game out of reach for Middle Georgia.
Yeomans' stellar day with seven RBI, three hits, two walks and two runs scored led the Nighthawks to victory. The seven RBI from Yeomans are the most in a single game by any Nighthawk this season. Hamacher and Robitzsch also contributed three hits each in the win.
Duval picked up his third win of the season in the series finale, giving up five hits and just one run while recording two strikeouts on the mound.
Teonis Pimentel, Mikal Ashley and Patrick Crosby led the Knights (5-14, 2-7 PBC) with a pair of hits each.
The Nighthawks will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 4 for their third meeting with Young Harris in the Battle of Blood Mountain. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Zell B. Miller Field in Young Harris, Ga.
