Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The No. 10 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team earned a 5-2 road victory over Converse on Sunday, taking the doubles point and winning four singles matches to secure the win.
The Nighthawks claimed the opening point with wins on courts two and three in doubles. Pedro Liborio and Juan Cruz Blanco cruised to a 6-1 victory at No. 2, while Marcos Castellanos and Franco Rebora sealed the doubles point with a 6-4 decision on court three.
UNG carried that momentum into singles play, picking up straight-set wins on courts one, five and six. João Luis Silva opened singles scoring for the Nighthawks with a 7-6, 6-3 win at the top spot, followed by Rebora's 6-3, 6-0 victory on court five. Lleyton Beasley added another point with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 performance at No. 6.
Janos Varga clinched the match for UNG with a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 2, rallying past his opponent 6-0, 2-6, 7-6.
Converse earned its two points in singles on courts three and four.
The Nighthawks improve to 2-0 with the win and will return to action Feb. 14, hosting Emmanuel at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.
