DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team set the tone early and never looked back Friday afternoon, rolling past Emmanuel 6–1 at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek behind a strong doubles showing and five singles victories.
The No. 10 Nighthawks claimed the opening doubles point by taking two of three matches. João Luis Silva and Janos Varga secured a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Franco Rebora and Marcos Castellanos followed with a 6-4 victory on court three to give North Georgia an early 1-0 advantage.
Emmanuel earned its lone point at No. 3 singles, where Alexsander Simovski defeated Varga, 6-4, 6-3.
North Georgia quickly pulled away in singles play. Eliseo Alcalde earned a win at No. 6 after Matheus Pimenta retired in the second set, and Castellanos added a straight-sets victory at No. 4. Rebora clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-2 decision at No. 5.
Silva posted a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2, and Pedro Liborio closed the afternoon with a three-set victory at the top spot.
The Nighthawks return to action Sunday, Feb. 16, hosting Auburn-Montgomery at 2 p.m. at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.
