No. 5 Nighthawks Strike Early to Grab 2-1 PBC Road Win at Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. — The No. 5 University of North Georgia (UNG) women' soccer team struck twice in the opening six minutes of the contest and held off a late push to stay unbeaten with a 2–1 win over Lander on Saturday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference at Van Taylor Stadium.

Grace McGill opened the scoring in the sixth minute, converting off an assist from Chloe Diaz. Just 23 seconds later, Alex Clark doubled the lead with what proved to be the game-winner for the Nighthawks (9-0-1, 5-0-0 PBC).

Lander (6-2-1, 3-1-0 PBC) cut the deficit in the 70th minute when Paige Bailey finished a pass from Peyton Bibbee, but North Georgia goalkeeper Isabelle Lee made three saves to preserve the win.

McGill led UNG with two shots, while Clark added one on goal. The Nighthawks outshot Lander 12-11 and held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

North Georgia remains atop the Peach Belt standings and will return home Wednesday, Oct. 8 to face Albany State in a Pink Out Game presented by Northeast Georgia Health System with kickoff set for 5:00 p.m.
