BLUFFTON, S.C. - Kendall Emener, Ansley Hall and Emily Trushel combined to score 45 of team 59 total points, but the University of North Georgia fell in Peach Belt Conference action 66-59 at USC Beaufort Saturday afternoon.
Emener led the Nighthawks (15-9, 8-6 Peach Belt) with 20 points. Hall tacked on 13 points and two steals while Trushel helped out with 12 points and a pair of steals.
After falling behind 10-6, North Georgia went on a 9-0 run with 4:37 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Lizzie Campbell, to take a 15-10 lead, a score that would hold for the rest of the period.
USCB rallied to take a 25-23 lead before North Georgia went on a 6-0 run starting at the 3:12 mark in the second period to take a 29-25 lead. The Nighthawks kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 31-27 advantage heading into halftime.
With the game tied at 51 with 6:30 to play, the Sand Sharks used a quick 6-0 spurt to take the lead for good. The Nighthawks would pull to within one (58-57) with 1:24 to go on a pair of free throws from Emener, but USCB was able to ice away the victory late.
Janiyah Heyward led USCB (7-14, 3-10 PBC) with 19 points and nine rebounds.
North Georgia travels to Americus on Wednesday, Feb. 21 to take on Georgia Southwestern.
