UNG Women's Basketball Slumps On Offense In 72-45 Road Loss at No. 23 GSW

AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of North Georgia women's basketball team fell 72-45 on the road against first place Georgia Southwestern Wednesday night in Peach Belt Conference action.

Despite holding a 16-15 lead after one quarter of play, the Nighthawks were outscored 55-18 in the second and third quarters, leading to the defeat.

GSW received three double-digit scoring performances, led by senior guard Destiny Garrett who dropped 19 points on an efficient 8-for-10 shooting night from the floor. Garrett buried three triples in four attempts in the win as well.

The scoring output ties a season-high for Garrett, who has now dropped 19 points in back-to-back games after doing so just four nights ago in a 68-57 win at Augusta.

The win moves the Lady Hurricanes to 20-3 overall and 13-2 in Peach Belt play.

For the Nighthawks, junior forward Emily Trushel was the only scorer in double figures with 12 points in what was a difficult night on offense for UNG.

As a team, the Nighthawks were limited to 3-for-13 (23%) from downtown and only attempted five free throws, making two of them (40%).

GSW won the battle of put back points, outscoring UNG 13-0 on second chance opportunities as the Lady Hurricanes also handled the rebounding battle, 35-24.

UNG now returns home Saturday for the penultimate home contest of the season. The Nighthawks will face Augusta from Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center on Feb. 24. Tip-off is slated for 1:30 p.m.
