DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia took a 2-1 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 7-4 win against the No. 13 Quincy on Saturday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.

Senior Wes Lott (3-0) got the win for North Georgia. The right-hander went 6.1 innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. Sophomore Matthew Heard also pitched well, going 2.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out three.

Freshman Noah Darden led the way offensively for the Nighthawks, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with a double. Sophomore Edwin Bowman put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Brady Skipper also contributed, going 1-for-3 for North Georgia with two RBI.

Trailing 1-0 after a homerun from Quincy, the Nighthawks first put runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning.

After the Hawks rallied to tie the ballgame at two, the Nighthawks came back to retake the lead in the second inning. North Georgia scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Bowman, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Nighthawks.

North Georgia held Quincy without a run before building their lead to 4-2 in the fourth inning.

North Georgia held the Hawks scoreless before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Freshman Kyle Robitzsch and Skipper each scored a run for the Nighthawks in the inning, bringing the North Georgia advantage to 6-2.

Quincy (0-2) got within 6-4 until the Nighthawks scored again in the seventh inning to stretch its lead to 7-4. Junior Riley Frost came across to score the lone run of the inning for North Georgia and get them on the board.

The win improves North Georgia to 7-1 on the season as the Nighthawks will look for the series sweep tomorrow (Feb. 18) with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m.
