DAHLONEGA -- Earning their first win in the 2023 season, the University of North Georgia men's soccer team defeated Erskine 4-0, using a flurry of second-half goals to give Interim Head Coach Anel Lillic his first win as the head man of the Nighthawks.
Despite North Georgia blistering the Erskine goalkeeper with shots, a scoreless first half forced the Nighthawks to head into the locker room locked into a 0-0 tie at the break. UNG had 18 shots in the first half, compared to none by the Flying Fleet.
In the second,
Max Garnett and
Tyler Vitelli began to own the final 45 minutes, each scoring two goals in rapid fire. Vitelli got the first goal in the 64th minute, sparking an offensive clinic. Garnett followed just three minutes later in the 67th minute, and Vitelli answered right back with his second in the 68th minute as the Nighthawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in a span of four minutes.
The fourth and final goal of the night did not take long, as Garnett added his second of the evening in the 72nd minute.
Mikail Prince and
Miguel Romero picked up assists in the game, Prince on the first goal and Romero on the third.
The Nighthawks move to 1-2 on the season while the Flying Fleet fall to 0-2.
