ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Three second-half goals were not enough in the University of North Georgia men's soccer match against Flagler, falling 4-3 to the Saints on the road in Peach Belt Conference play.
The Nighthawk attack started slow but came into form in the second half, unable to take the lead as the Saints added two of their own in the second half, staying ahead of UNG until the final whistle. Two first-half goals made it a 2-0 game early in the opening half, with Flagler scoring once in the 21st minute and again in the 26th minute.
Max Garnett was a force in the second half, helping North Georgia back into contention. Garnett opened up the half with a 47th-minute goal, pulling within one of Flagler. Nineteen minutes later, Garnett came through again, tying the game in the second half with a goal in the 66th minute after an assist from
Aram Lara.
The Saints would answer, scoring one minute later to retake the lead and again in the 69th minute to take a 4-2 lead.
Harrison Wright gave UNG a chance, scoring late in the game by chipping the keeper in the 86th minute to pull within one.
The Nighthawks couldn't find the equalizer in the final minutes, falling on the road 4-3. A return home awaits as North Georgia will return to the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park for a match against Lander on Wednesday (Oct. 4) at 5:00 p.m. It will be one of two home games this week, with Georgia Southwestern coming to town on Saturday (Oct. 7).
