MORROW, Ga. — Four second-half goals were too much for the University of North Georgia men's soccer team in their 5-1 loss to 14th-ranked Clayton State. The Nighthawks hung in the fight for the first half, heading into the halftime break down 1-0, but the Lakers pulled away in the second half, taking their sixth straight victory.
The lone first-half goal came from Vic Delgado Miller (CSU) early in the eighth minute, but neither side could manage another, sending both sides into the break with a 1-0 score. In the second half, the Lakers would come to life, scoring in the 49th minute to capture a 2-0 lead.
Much of the scoring would cease until later in the half, with the Lakers adding two more, once in the 76th minute and another in the 79th, before North Georgia would find the back of the net for UNG's lone goal.
Santiago Cano would step up to the penalty spot, ending the clean sheet and making it a 4-1 game.
The final goal would come just moments before the final whistle, with Adrain Gallegos (CSU) scoring with 21 seconds left.
The Nighthawks will face Flagler on the road in St. Augustine, Fla., on Saturday (Sept. 30), with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. The Saints hold a 1-4-2 record, facing a tough schedule early in the season. Flagler tied Tampa 0-0 in their last game, ending a two-game losing streak.
