YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - A weather delay in the second half was not enough to stop the University of North Georgia women's soccer team from picking up its third win of the season, taking a 2-0 non-conference result over Young Harris on the road.
The Nighthawks added one goal in each half, with
Maysoon El-Shami taking advantage of a penalty in the box, placing her penalty kick past the keeper to give UNG a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute. After the halftime break, both sides battled, with YHC able to withstand the North Georgia attack for much of the second half despite facing nine shots in the first and another eight in the second.
In the 68th minute, the game went into a 30-minute weather delay. Once the game resumed, North Georgia got right back to work, looking to add cushion to their lead. In the 76th minute,
Nikki Gomez took a pass from
Grace McGill, scoring her second goal of the season, putting the nail in the coffin.
It was the third shutout in four games played for the Nighthawk defense, as UNG moved to 3-0-1 on the season, their best start since 2019.
