DAHLONEGA – In dramatic fashion, the University of North Georgia baseball team earned a walk-off win over Flagler 7-6 to take a Peach Belt Conference series sweep over the Saints at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.
The Nighthawks answered a two-run rally in the top of the ninth with the game-winning run in the bottom half as
Riley Frost drove in
Brady Skipper, who reached base on a leadoff triple, to secure the sweep in the three-game Peach Belt Conference series.
North Georgia used a majority of the pitching staff to take the final game, leaning on the arm of
Zach Green once again with an assist from
Jaret Bales and
Jack Emacio (W, 2-1) to get the final two outs and stop the bleeding to give the Nighthawks a chance in the bottom half. Green finished two and one-third innings, allowing no runs on three hits in the fifth, sixth, and seventh inning.
The youth for UNG proved key at the plate as three freshmen combined for seven of the Nighthawks' hits on the day, led by
Andrews Opata, who garnered three hits on four at-bats, driving in one run. Skipper proved to be the ultimate leadoff man, reaching base three times on two hits, none bigger than his leadoff triple in the ninth to set up the walk-off.
Skipper scored all three times while reaching base, assisting
Riley Frost in the second spot to a team lead in RBIs (2).
Edwin Bowman IV joined the trio of freshmen to highlight the day for North Georgia, earning two hits and a walk, scoring once in the fourth inning.
