DAHLONEGA – Behind
Wes Lott's one-hit complete game shutout, the University of North Georgia baseball team earned a series-opening win over Salem 5-0 in their three-game non-conference series at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.
Lott (W, 5-2) threw all nine innings allowing no runs, one hit and one walk, striking out eight batters on his way to his fifth victory of the season and third complete game.
Riley Frost got the scoring started by launching a solo shot to right field in the third inning. A pair of sacrifice flies by
Jack Davis in the third and
Tim Conway in the seventh inning gave the Nighthawks a 3-0 lead.
Andrews Opata added insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, driving in
Edwin Bowman IV and scoring on an error by the catcher after a steal at third.
Three Nighthawks earned two hits in the game, as
Jace Bowen and
Riley Frost each earned two hits at the top of the order. Bowman IV added some quality plate appearances in the middle of the lineup, reaching base three times on two hits and a walk, scoring twice.
