DAHLONEGA – An offensive onslaught powered the University of North Georgia baseball team past Claflin to take the Peach Belt Conference series victory over the Panthers at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park. The Nighthawks fell behind 2-0 in the first but scored 16 unanswered runs to take a 16-3 victory in the second game of their league series.
UNG was led by
Jack Davis at the plate as Davis logged two hits and one walk driving in three runs and scoring twice in four trips to the plate.
Tim Conway added two hits, scoring twice in his four at-bats.
The Nighthawks showed patience at the plate drawing 17 walks in the game, with
Andrews Opata,
Jace Bowen and
Nik Levensteins all earning three walks each. Bowen added a triple to his stat line on the day as Opata hit a left-field home run in the fifth inning in one of his two opportunities.
Daniel Courtney (W, 3-1) threw five innings in the game, allowing two runs while striking out six.
Pete Weil closed it out in relief, finishing with two innings pitched, allowing one hit and one run.
