AMERICUS, Ga. – In the series finale, the University of North Georgia baseball team fell short 6-5 at Georgia Southwestern State in Peach Belt Conference action needing two runs in the top of the ninth to force extra innings but coming away with just one. The Nighthawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Hurricanes mounted the comeback in the fourth inning to tie it before taking the lead.
Three Nighthawks finished with two hits in the game as
Andrews Opata,
Tim Conway and
Nik Levensteins accounted for six of the nine UNG hits on the day. Opata scored twice and drove in one run with Conway adding an RBI of his own with a solo shot to left field in the third inning.
Luke Starling led the team in the RBI column on the day, driving in two runs in the second inning with a double to left center field.
Reid Howard highlighted the day on the mound for the Nighthawks, throwing two and two-thirds innings in relief, allowing no runs on no hits and striking out two batters.

North Georgia will look to bounce back with four games next weekend, hosting top-ranked North Greenville at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park on Wednesday (Apr. 26) at 5:00 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season schedule with a three-game PBC weekend series at home against Claflin.
