DAHLONEGA – Early fireworks got the University of North Georgia baseball team started in its 6-2 non-conference victory over Lincoln Memorial in Wednesday's (Mar. 29) matchup against the Railsplitters at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park. The Nighthawks end a two-game midweek skid and win their third straight game.
LMU opened up the game with a solo shot in the first at-bat of the game before North Georgia would answer in a hurry, as
Riley Frost and
Tim Conway hit back-to-back left-field homers in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. That score would hold until the third inning when LMU tied the game at two with a single up the middle. A sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth by
Mason Steel would earn the Nighthawks the lead, and UNG would never look back, adding three more in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-1 final.
Reid Howard (W, 1-1) would earn the win out of the bullpen, with Howard pitching three and two-thirds strong innings in relief, allowing just two hits and no runs.
Riley Frost and
Justin Bailey led the team in hits, both finishing with two, as
Riley Frost's homer in the first was his big swing of the night.
Riley Frost was among four Nighthawks to drive in a run, with
Connor Frost and
Mason Steel joining
Riley Frost and Conway in the RBI category, with Conway the lone North Georgia player to earn two.
