PENSACOLA, Fla. – After grabbing an early 8-0 lead in the first four innings, the University of North Georgia baseball team answered a furious comeback by West Florida (11-9), adding a run in the top of the ninth to take the first of a two-game non-conference series against the Argonauts, 9-8.
Three freshmen and a senior led the way for North Georgia at the plate, with
Jace Bowen being the top contributor with three hits and one walk, adding two RBIs in his five trips to the plate.
Edwin Bowman IV finished with three RBIs, taking advantage of
Connor Frost drawing four walks, and scoring two runs.
Andrews Opata joined Bowen and Bowman IV to form the trio of freshman contributors, earning two hits at the top of the lineup, scoring once.
Justin Bailey was the veteran in the seventh spot, driving in two runs with two hits in his four at-bats.
Tim Conway added to the cause, driving in one run on one hit while drawing a walk and scoring twice.
Daniel Courtney was cruising to begin the game but ran into trouble in the fourth, ending with four innings pitched while giving up three runs on six hits.
Zach Green and
Jacob Lassiat (W, 1-1) found success in relief, with the duo combining for three innings of work, allowing no runs on three hits.
