DAHLONEGA – The bats stayed hot and pitching held the opposition scoreless in the University of North Georgia baseball team's 20-0 win over Mars Hill (0-4). The win completed the three-game series sweep over MHU and marked the 12th straight victory over the Mountain Lions. The 20-0 win was the largest over MHU all time, and it is the third time in UNG's last five regular season games that they have scored 20 or more runs.
Matthew Heard (1-0) threw five scoreless innings before
Reid Howard,
Eddie Galatas and
Jacob Lassiat came in for relief to continue the shutout. The Nighthawks benefited from control issues by MHU, earning 13 walks. The hits would follow the walks with four different Nighthawks finishing with two or more hits.
Riley Frost and
Connor Frost showed their sibling bond by driving in three runs apiece, while freshman
Jace Bowen added three RBIs of his own to join the Frosts in a tie for the team-high.
Connor Frost and
Nik Levensteins showed their patience, each leading the team in walks with three.
Big Innings
- 4th: Andrew Shadburn opened up the inning with a double, and Jace Bowen and Riley Frost followed with hits of their own to make it 6-0. The floodgates would open with MHU pitching, issuing walks and wild pitches before a Shadburn ground out in his second at-bat of the inning stopped the bleeding.
- 8th: UNG finished the series strong, putting ten runs across in their final at-bat of the series. Walks and opportune hitting told the story in the eighth, with MHU allowing five hits and five walks in the inning.
