DAHLONEGA – A pair of big sixth innings for both teams led to the University of North Georgia baseball team splitting two games with Florida Southern (2-4) to open up its three-game weekend series. A late rally came up short in the Nighthawks' 9-6 loss in the first game, but UNG's offense rebounded in the second game defeating FSC 10-2.
Nik Levensteins was the driving force at the plate for North Georgia in the series-opening game. Levensteins logged four RBIs on two hits. In his first at-bat, Levensteins doubled to left center to score
Riley Frost, and in his second, he hit the first home run of the season for UNG, a three-run shot to bring in Frost and
Andrews Opata. Opata was another bright spot in the loss getting three hits in his five plate appearances.
The second game had much of the same, with Levensteins driving in three more runs while Opata added another three hits to his total, driving in three runs of his own. PBC Freshman of the Week
Jace Bowen picked up the pace in game two, with three hits and one RBI in five plate appearances.
Matthew Heard (2-0) continued his strong start to the season, throwing six innings while allowing just one run and four hits while striking out four.
Ben Koch closed the game out, throwing three innings and allowing just one run on two hits to earn the save.
