DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia baseball team couldn't convert on scoring opportunities late, falling to Young Harris (10-3, 4-0) 3-1 in the first game of their three-game weekend Peach Belt Conference series at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.
The Nighthawks pitching kept UNG close, but a two-run shot in the third inning for YHC gave the Mountain Lions the edge. North Georgia outhit Young Harris, allowing just three hits in the game to UNG's five.
Matthew Heard (2-1) threw five innings, allowing two earned runs on five strikeouts and two hits.
Zach Green,
Jaret Bales and
Jack Emacio helped finish the game in relief, throwing the final four innings and allowing zero runs on one hit.
Jace Bowen was the bright spot for UNG's offense, earning two hits and one walk in four trips to the plate.
Edwin Bowman IV singled up the middle in the seventh, driving in UNG's lone run of the game.
