DAHLONEGA --The No. 24 University of North Georgia women's basketball team took a 75-73 advantage into the fourth quarter, but could not hang on and fell 98-90 in a high scoring affair to West Georgia Tuesday at Lynn Cottrell Arena in the UNG Convocation Center.
The Nighthawks (6-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Emily Trushel, who had 25 points, six assists and three steals. Dasha Cannon added 19 points, four steals and two blocks and Lexi Pierce chipped in as well with 18 points and two steals.
UWG led 23-21 after the first quarter, but North Georgia erupted for 30 second quarter points to take a 57-41 lead into the break. In the second frame, North Georgia scored 22 of its 30 points in the paint.
The Nighthawks would expand their lead to a game-high 10 points (68-58) with 4:41 to go in the third.
The game was tied at 82 with 5:13 to go in the contest, but the Wolves would end the game on a 16-8 run to hand North Georgia the 98-90 loss.
UNG returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 30 with the final non-conference game of the season when the Nighthawks entertain Reinhardt at 1:30 at home.
