DAHLONEGA — A dominant outing for the University of North Georgia women's basketball team ended with a 72-57 victory over No. 3 Catawba at Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center. The Nighthawks came out firing in the first quarter, winning their fifth straight game of the season after opening quickly and continuing to find a rhythm in the second half.
Emily Trushel continued to roll in her sixth game for North Georgia, scoring 21 points on 7-15 shooting, grabbing eight rebounds and two steals.
Lexi Pierce finished second on the team in scoring, earning 16 points while shooting 3-6 from beyond the arc. Pierce helped lead the way on both ends with a team-high four steals, adding four assists.
Kendall Emener provided some spark off the bench, scoring 13 points to round out the double-digit scorers, adding four rebounds on the offensive end.
A quick 13-point lead in the first for UNG was erased in the second as the Nighthawks led 36-33 at the break. After halftime, North Georgia got rolling once again, outscoring Catawba 36-24 in the final two quarters to earn the win over the reigning Southeast Regional champions.
The Nighthawks will get right back to work next Monday (Dec. 5), heading on the road to face King at 5:30 p.m. in Bristol, Tenn. King is 1-5 on the season, defeating Alice Lloyd 69-61 in their last time out.
