DAHLONEGA — Wrapping up the Nighthawk Classic, the University of North Georgia women's basketball team defeated Lincoln Memorial 58-56, holding off a third quarter run from the Railsplitters at Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center.
Emily Trushel led the Nighthawks in scoring with 25, opening up with four consecutive made three-pointers. Trushel grabbed eight rebounds, playing all 40 minutes in the game.
Ansley Hall finished second for North Georgia in scoring, finishing with 13 points and three steals.
Dasha Cannon finished next, scoring ten points with five rebounds and shooting 5-8 from the field and earning four assists, rounding out the double-digit scorers.
Lincoln Memorial did much of their damage inside the paint, outscoring North Georgia 32-18 in that category as the Nighthawks made nine threes, shooting 9-15. UNG held a 12-point lead at the end of the first quarter, with LMU tying it at the end of the third after outscoring the Nighthawks by five in the second and six in the third.
Next for North Georgia is a home matchup against Lees-Mcrae on Tuesday (Nov. 21) at 6:00 p.m. Lees-Mcrae holds a 1-1 record, defeating Allen 54-53 in their last game.
