Nighthawks Earn Shutout Victory Over USCB

DAHLONEGA — Adding another clean sheet to their name, the University of North Georgia women's soccer team earned their eighth win of the season in a 2-0 victory against the Sandsharks of USCB. It was the first trip to North Georgia for the Sandsharks as the Nighthawks peppered the keeper with shots, with USCB holding rigid for much of the match.

UNG finished the day with 21 shots, 14 on goal, splitting them close to even, adding 10 in the first half and 11 in the second. Natalie Maguire lit the match to ignite the scoring in the game, coming on as a sub in the 35th minute and scoring the first goal of the game just two minutes later.

Maguire's spark was the lone goal in the first half by either team, with North Georgia holding a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break, allowing just three shots to their ten.

In the second, much of the same continued, with the Nighthawks continuing relentless pressure as USCB held together until Mychael Fruits added the dagger in the 61st minute, chipping the keeper from deep range to add insurance and make it a 2-0 final.

A stiff test awaits UNG in their next time out, facing Catawba, who holds a perfect 10-0 record this season, ranking third in NCAA Division II. Kickoff for one of the premier matchups of the season is set for Wednesday (Oct. 11) at 3:00 p.m. in Salisbury, N.C.
