DAHLONEGA — A late run of excellence in the second half gave the University of North Georgia men's soccer team a 5-0 win over Georgia Southwestern, remaining unbeaten within the confines of the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park.
The Nighthawks held a 1-0 lead over GSW at the halftime break, thanks to a
Michael Walsh goal with an assist from
Aram Lara in the 33rd minute. A nine to three shot advantage in the Nighthawks' favor ended the first half of play, as North Georgia put six shots on net, with the Lara breakthrough coming as the lone goal for either side.
In the second, UNG continued a similar pressure but executed on their chances, scoring four goals in the half to run away with a 5-0 victory at home.
Santiago Cano stepped up to the penalty spot in the 55th minute to make it a 2-0 game before Cano added another 35 seconds later to make it a 3-0 game and open up the floodgates.
Tyler Vitelli and
Payge Sinclair added a goal each, with Vitelli adding one in the 64th minute before Sinclair added the cherry on top in the 79th minute, finishing off the fireworks and making it a 5-0 final score.
A road match against USC Aiken awaits, with North Georgia looking to move back above .500 this season as it takes on the Pacers on Wednesday (Oct. 11) at 4:00 p.m. in Aiken, S.C.
