DAHLONEGA — The 11th shutout and third consecutive for the University of North Georgia women's soccer team led to a 2-0 victory over the Saints of Limestone at the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park. The Nighthawks scored early to take the lead and used a stifling backline while dominating time of possession for much of the evening.
In the seventh minute,
Arielle Aronoff continued to spark the offense, delivering the lead off an assist by
Alex Clark and
Maysoon El-Shami. The score wouldn't change, with both sides firing five shots in the half with
Sierra Fowler making three saves to get North Georgia to the break with a 1-0 lead.
After the break, the Nighthawks began to push for a second, outshooting the Saints eight to two, with
Cat Watry finding a goal in the 66th minute to add insurance in the final minutes of action. It was Watry's second goal of the season as El-Shami earned her second assist of the game.
The Nighthawks move to 12-2-2, winning all but one game this season with a shutout and setting up a marquee matchup in the regular season finale. Next for UNG is a date with Columbus State as the two programs sit in a tie atop the Peach Belt Conference standings, with the winner heading to the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed.
Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 29) at the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park. The Cougars come to Dahlonega with an 11-3-1 record, remaining unbeaten for the past 11 games.
