DAHLONEGA - It took until the bottom of the eighth for a run to scratch the scoreboard as the No. 19 University of North Georgia baseball team earned a 1-0 win over Queens Friday in the series opener.
Both teams had opportunities to score in early innings, but UNG's
Cade Heil and Queens's Nick Charleson each worked out of jams. North Georgia finally broke through in the eighth inning as
Crews Taylor hit a ball to the opposite field, clearing the wall in left for the game's only run.
NOTES
- Taylor finished 3-for-4 at the plate, accounting for all but two of North Georgia's hits.
- Heil (2-1) finished the game win the win, going for his ninth complete game in his collegiate career. It was also his third career shutout, scattering four hits and two walks around five strikeouts.
- Friday marked the first time that the Nighthawks and Royals had ever met.
