DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia baseball team jumped out to an early lead and held on late as they opened the three game series with a 9-5 win over Mars Hill Friday night.
The Nighthawks scored three in the second highlighted by a
Tim Conway RBI double and followed that up with a
Connor Frost sacrifice fly in the third to go up 4-0. After the Lions homered in the fourth, Frost answered with a RBI single in the fifth to stretch the lead back out to 5-1.
MHU homered again in the sixth to trim the lead down, but the Nighthawk offense exploded in the bottom of the frame with a
Nik Levensteins RBI single and savvy base running to score four and lead 9-2. The Lions pushed three more across in the seventh but could get no closer.

Cade Heil (1-1) got the win, going six innings with seven strikeouts.
Beau Jones earned his first save of the season, sitting down both batters he faced in the ninth.
- Levensteins finished 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the way. He also drew two walks.

Crews Taylor stole two bases on the day.
