Barry Ends Women's Soccer Team's Winning Streak With 1-0 Setback

Box Score MELBOURNE, Florida | The 10th-ranked University of North Georgia women's soccer team had its season-opening four-match winning streak snapped on Sunday morning with a 1-0 loss to Barry University on the final day of the Marriott Doubletree Panther Invitational.

North Georgia (4-1-0) returns to action on Wednesday, September 17 with a 6:00 home match against West Georgia. The win improves Barry to a perfect 3-0-0 on the year.

The teams battled to a scoreless draw through the first half with neither team able to mount much offensively. But in the second half, the Bucs won a corner kick and Tamara Vuckovich's service eluded UNG keeper Mallory Sayre in the box and Amanda Traynor knocked it in with a nifty back-heel shot.

The Buccaneers held a 14-8 advantage in shots including a decisive 10-3 edge in the second half.

UNG's Rachel VanHorn's pair of shots on frame were the only two that the Nighthawks forced Barry keeper Becca Rogers to collect.

The match caps a 1,300 mile road trip for the Nighthawks that covered four states in five days.
