DAHLONEGA – The No. 11 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team capped a perfect opening weekend at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament with an 11-1 run-rule victory over Flagler on Sunday afternoon, punching its ticket to the PBC Championship Series.
The Nighthawks wasted no time taking control, plating three runs in the first inning behind RBI singles from Kyle Robitzsch and Jake Streeter to jump out to an early 3-0 lead.
North Georgia extended its advantage in the fourth, scoring four more runs to break the game open. Robitzsch delivered another RBI single before Cam Hodge followed with a run-scoring hit. Streeter capped the inning with a two-run double down the left field line, pushing the lead to 7-0.
The Nighthawks added a run in the fifth and continued to pour it on in the sixth. After Flagler broke up the shutout with a run in the top half of the inning, the Nighthawks responded with three more runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Ben Hamacher to enforce the run rule.
Robitzsch led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Hamacher finished 3-for-4 with two RBI. Streeter also drove in three runs on a 2-for-4 performance.
On the mound, Rhaylin Carvajal delivered a complete-game effort, allowing just one run on seven hits over seven innings. The right-hander struck out four and walked two to improve to 6-1 on the season.
With the win, North Georgia advances to the PBC Championship Series, set for May 7-8, where it will host the winner of Columbus State and Lander at Bob Stein Stadium.
