TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The No. 14 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team saw its season come to a close Saturday with a 7-3 loss to North Greenville in an elimination game at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
The Nighthawks struck first in the opening inning as Brady Skipper and Ben Hamacher each reached base ahead of Kyle Robitzsch, who lined a two-run single through the right side to give North Georgia an early 2-0 lead.
North Greenville answered in the third inning. Skyler Hegler drove in the first run with an RBI double down the left field line before Thomas Powell followed with a two-run single to center field to put North Greenville ahead 3-2.
The Trailblazers extended their lead in the sixth inning with four runs. Landon Peavy delivered a two-run double to left-center field before Samford Halcomb added a two-run single up the middle to stretch the advantage to 7-2.
North Georgia plated its final run in the seventh inning when Cam Hodge grounded out to second base, scoring Skipper from third to make it 7-3.
Skipper paced the Nighthawks offensively with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while Robitzsch finished with two RBI.
Andrew Duval suffered the loss on the mound, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Chandler Thiel allowed four runs in relief, while Ryan Taylor closed the game with three scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits.
The Nighthawks finished the season with a 41-16 overall record after capturing the Peach Belt Conference regular season championship and earning the No. 4 seed in the regional.
