DAHLONEGA – Behind a dominant start from Dylan Holbrook, the No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team powered past Anderson, 10-5, at Bob Stein Stadium.
Holbrook set the tone early with his best outing of the season, allowing just one hit across six shutout innings while striking out a season-high nine batters. The right-hander faced the minimum through much of his outing and did not issue a walk, keeping the Trojans off balance all afternoon.
North Georgia provided early run support in the first inning as Kyle Robitzsch delivered a two-RBI double down the left field line to score Brody Yeomans and Brady Skipper for a 2-0 lead.
The Nighthawks broke the game open in the third inning, capitalizing on Anderson miscues. Yeomans added a sacrifice fly before Cam Hodge launched a two-run homer to right-center. Jake Streeter followed with a solo shot to push the advantage to 6-0.
The Nighthawks continued to add on in the sixth as JD Coleman and Hunter Thompson each recorded RBI singles to extend the lead to 8-0.
Anderson got on the board in the seventh with a two-run homer, but the Nighthawks answered in the bottom half on Hodge's sacrifice fly to make it 9-2. Thompson added a solo home run in the eighth to cap the scoring for North Georgia.
The Trojans plated three runs in the ninth, highlighted by a second two-run homer, but the late rally fell short.
At the plate, Brady Skipper led the way with a 2-for-3 performance and three runs scored, while Robitzsch went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Hodge drove in three runs, and both Streeter and Coleman added two hits apiece. Thompson finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, including his eighth-inning homer.
North Georgia returns to action Tuesday, April 21, hosting Erskine in its final home game of the regular season at Bob Stein Stadium.
