No. 14 Nighthawks Earn 5-2 Win Over Georgia College on Senior Day

DAHLONEGA – On the final home match day of the regular season, the No. 14 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) victory over Georgia College on Sunday afternoon at the UNG Tennis Complex.

Prior to the start of the matches, Eliseo AlcaldeTyler Cunningham and Pedro Liborio were all celebrated during Senior Day festivities.

After the celebrations, the Nighthawks (11-6, 3-1 PBC) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, taking all three doubles matches to open the afternoon.

At No. 3 doubles, Marcos Castellanos and Franco Rebora were the first victorious Nighthawks with a decisive 6-2 win. Janos Varga and Liborio clinched the point for UNG 6-3 at No. 1, while Ben Brandl and Juan Cruz Blanco cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 2 to complete the doubles sweep.

North Georgia kept its control of the courts in singles with four more victories.

Blanco was the first to finish off his opponent with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4. Rebora was next in line with an identical 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5.

Alcalde continued to build on North Georgia's lead, as he blanked his opponent 6-0 in the first set before finishing him off 6-4 in the second to clinch the victory for the North Georgia.

Castellanos continued to battle with Jakob Andergassen at No. 3, grinding out a 6-2, 7-5 win to cap off a strong showing from the Nighthawks.

For the third time in the last 10 seasons, the Nighthawks have secured an undefeated record at home, and the eight wins are tied for the most in a single season during that stretch.

North Georgia will get back to work on Tuesday, Apr. 14 for a road matchup with Columbus State at John W. Walden Tennis Center.
