Augusta, Ga. – Cam Hodge's two home runs and seven RBI helped propel the No. 12 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team to a 13-2 win and series sweep of Augusta on Sunday afternoon at Jaguars Field.
Hodge's pair of homers was a part of a late rally that saw North Georgia (28-8, 19-2 PBC) plate 13 runs across the fifth and sixth innings in the run-rule victory.
For the second time in this series, Augusta struck first with an RBI triple in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead over the Nighthawks.
The Jaguars tacked onto their lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run from Landon Leonard to left field to extend the advantage to two.
With two outs on the board in the top of the fifth, it appeared as though the Nighthawks were in for another scoreless inning. Instead, the North Georgia bats rallied and exploded for eight runs in the frame for their best inning of the series.
A walk from Landon Tate and back-to-back singles by Hunter Thompson and Ben Hamacher loaded the bases for Brody Yeomans. The Nighthawks, who have been one of the most disciplined teams in Division II baseball at the plate this season, struck again with a walk from Yeomans and a hit by pitch from Kyle Robitzsch to knot the score at 2-2.
With the bases still loaded, Hodge belted a grand slam over the right field wall to break the game open and give North Georgia its first lead of the ballgame.
After a pitching substitution from the Jaguars, the Nighthawks continued to rally with a single from Jake Streeter and Caleb Farr's second home run of the season to leave the frame with a six-run lead.
Now in the driver's seat, North Georgia kept its foot on the gas with another explosive outing in the sixth. A pair of singles from Yeomans and Robitzsch scored another run put traffic on the bases as Hodge stepped back up to bat.
Hodge stayed hot, launching another home run that made its way over the centerfield wall. In a matter of two innings, Hodge and the Nighthawks found themselves up 12-2. Streeter scored on an error to add one more run, as the North Georgia left the top of the inning with an 11-run cushion.
After Andrew Duval retired the side in the bottom of the sixth, the Nighthawks leaned on Rhaylin Carvajal to close out the Jaguars in the bottom of the seventh. With a runner in scoring position, Carvajal settled in and delivered a strike for the third and final out in the mercy-rule win.
Hodge set a new career high with seven RBI in the victory. The standout freshman from Winder, Ga. also homered twice in the same game for the first time in his collegiate career.
Hamacher also had a stellar day with four hits while scoring a pair of runs. Across the final two games of the series, the senior shortstop went 7-10 at the plate with two doubles and scored three runs.
Duval secured the seventh win on the mound in his undefeated 2026 campaign. The Lexington, S.C. native struck out eight batters for the fourth time this season while only surrendering five hits, two runs and zero walks.
The Nighthawks look to carry this momentum back home for a midweek matchup against Lee. First pitch is set for Tuesday, Mar. 31 at 5 p.m.
