DAHLONEGA - The No. 12 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team dropped an 8-4 midweek decision to Emmanuel on Tuesday at Bob Stein Stadium.
Emmanuel struck first in the opening inning with a two-run home run to right field for an early 2-0 lead. The Nighthawks answered in the bottom half, tying the game on sacrifice flies from Kyle Robitzsch and Caleb Farr that brought home Ben Hamacher and Brady Skipper.
The Lions regained control in the second inning, scoring twice on a two-RBI single to take a 4-2 advantage. North Georgia evened the score in the fifth as Brody Yeomans crossed the plate on a catcher's error, allowing Cam Hodge to score as well on the sequence.
Emmanuel pulled away late, plating two runs in the seventh on a RBI single to make it 6-4. The Lions added insurance in the ninth with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to secure the 8-4 final.
Hamacher and Skipper each recorded two hits to lead the Nighthawks offensively, while Farr and Robitzsch each drove in a run.
On the mound, Avery Brown provided a strong relief effort, tossing five innings while allowing one run and striking out eight. Evan Carter (1-2) was charged with the loss after surrendering two runs in the seventh inning.
North Georgia returns to action March 27-29 with a Peach Belt Conference road series at Augusta.
