YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The No. 14 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team bounced back with a dominant performance Thursday, sweeping doubles and securing a 4-1 victory at Young Harris.
The Nighthawks (7-3) set the tone early by claiming the doubles point in decisive fashion, taking all three matches.
At No. 2 doubles, Franco Rebora and Marcos Castellanos were first off the court with a quick 6-0 win. Lleyton Beasley and Eliseo Alcalde followed at No. 3 with a 6-2 victory to clinch the point, before Juan Cruz Blanco and Ben Brandl capped the sweep at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 decision.
North Georgia carried that momentum into singles, where it secured 3 wins, all coming in straight sets.
Rebora was first to finish in singles, cruising to a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4. Alcalde followed shortly after with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5 to extend the Nighthawks' lead.
Beasley added another point at No. 6 singles, grinding out a 7-6, 6-3 win to clinch the win for the Nighthawks
Young Harris picked up its lone point at No. 3 singles, where Guillem Busquets Brau defeated Blanco in straight sets.
Castellanos led 7-6, 5-3 at No. 1 singles, while Brandl led at No. 2 in the third set, 7-5, 3-6, 2-1 before the match was called.
North Georgia returns to action March 22, facing No. 31 West Alabama.
