No. 13 Nighthawks Sweep Auburn Montgomery Behind Thiel’s Complete Game

DAHLONEGA – Chandler Thiel went the distance on the mound as the No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) claimed a 7-1 win over Auburn Montgomery on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium to complete the two-game sweep.

After a quick three up, three down from Thiel in the top of the first, the Nighthawk bats got warmed up right away in the home half of the inning. Cam Hodge sent a three-run homer over the left-field wall to give the North Georgia an early 3-0 advantage.

Thiel held the Warhawks to just two hits through the next three innings, only seeing 11 batters during that stretch while keeping Auburn Montgomery scoreless.

With two outs on the board in the bottom of the fourth, the Nighthawks rallied as Jake Streeter notched an RBI double to score Zach Aschoff and extend the lead 4-0. The inning rolled along with another base hit from Ben Hamacher to score Streeter and tack on another run.

Auburn Montgomery got on the board with a solo home run in the top of the fifth, serving as the only run Thiel gave up on the mound in the ballgame.

Thiel continued to dominate through the final third of the game with another three up, three down in the top of the seventh and eighth innings.

In the bottom half of the eighth, Streeter launched his fifth home run of the season to add two more runs on to a now 7-1 lead for the Nighthawks.

Thiel worked through the top of the Warhawk batting order in the top of the ninth, clinching the complete-game performance on the bump. The sophomore pitcher from Woodstock, Ga. picked up his first win of the 2026 season behind the best outing of his collegiate career, going the distance while only surrendering five hits and one run while recording five strikeouts.

Hodge and Streeter led the Nighthawks with two hits, three RBI and a home run each. Streeter has strung together five-straight multi-hit games with two homers during that stretch.

Luke Turner and Alec Hotaling paced Auburn Montgomery (6-17) with two hits each and a home run from Hotaling.

The Nighthawks (20-5, 11-1 PBC) look to carry this momentum back into conference play with a three-game series on the road against USC Beaufort up next. First pitch for game one is scheduled for Friday, Mar. 13 at 6 p.m. in Bluffton, S.C.
