DAHLONEGA - The No. 10 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team opened the week with a 6-1 victory over Auburn University at Montgomery on Monday afternoon at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.

After dropping the top doubles court, North Georgia bounced back on courts two and three to secure the doubles point. Juan Cruz Blanco and Pedro Liborio evened the slate with a 6-2 win, before Franco Rebora and Marcos Castellanos closed out doubles play with a 6-3 victory.

Liborio carried that momentum into singles, cruising past Giuseppe Bonaiuti, 6-0, 6-3, to give the Nighthawks a 2-0 edge. Castellanos followed with a straight-sets win at No. 4, defeating Raphael Pertusier, 6-3, 6-3.

Silva then clinched the match for North Georgia at No. 2, rallying past Jami Savolainen, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Auburn-Montgomery picked up its lone point at No. 3 as Guillermo Vedia Sanchez edged Janos Varga, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2.

North Georgia answered with wins on the final two courts, as Rebora topped Harry McDonagh, 6-3, 6-2, and Lleyton Beasley closed the afternoon with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Augustin Wallaert.

North Georgia returns to action at home Feb. 26 against Carson-Newman at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.
