YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The offensive surge continued for the Nighthawks on Tuesday afternoon as the No. 29 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team erupted for 16 runs over No. 16 Young Harris.
Brody Yeomans jump-started the offense with a two-run home run in the second inning.
The Nighthawks added two more in the third on a
Ben Hamacher solo homer and an RBI single from
Hunter Thompson to take a 4-0 lead.
North Georgia broke the game open in the fourth, scoring nine runs.
Zach Aschoff, making his collegiate debut, drove in Yeomans with an RBI single.
Brady Skipper followed with an RBI double, and
Cam Hodge added a two-run single.
Schley Gordy knocked in another run with an RBI single before
Jake Streeter capped the inning with a grand slam, giving the Nighthawks a 13-0 advantage.
Young Harris answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added one in the fifth.
Streeter drove in another run in the sixth, and Aschoff recorded his second RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly.
Kyle Robitzsch capped the scoring with a solo home run in the seventh.
North Georgia (7-1) finished with 20 hits. Robitzsch and Streeter each recorded four hits, while Streeter drove in five runs.
Ethan Finch started on the mound for the Nighthawks, pitching four innings while allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
Cohen Rogers earned the win in relief, throwing three innings and allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
Evan Carter closed the final two innings, surrendering one hit and striking out one.
North Georgia opens Peach Belt Conference play with a road series at Georgia College beginning Feb. 13.
