DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia baseball team dropped its non-conference against Anderson Tuesday night after the Trojans put up 13 runs in the game, 11 of which came after the sixth inning. In the first night game at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park this season, UNG lost just its fifth home game of the year 13-7, falling to a 25-12 overall record with a 20-5 mark at home.
Two errors within the first three pitches of the game assisted Anderson in putting up a pair of runs in the first inning to get on the board first.
The Nighthawks steadied things and eventually took the lead in the third. Redshirt sophomore first baseman Phillip Ard got UNG on the board with a solo home run to lead off the second inning, his seventh of the season. Then in the third, Ard brought in another run with a sacrifice fly to score freshman outfielder Noah Darden.
Fellow freshman Kyle Robitzsch followed in the next at bat with an RBI double to give the Nighthawks the 3-2 advantage.
UNG extended its lead to 6-2 with a three run fifth inning.
Despite facing two outs, Robitzsch walked to join Darden on the bases and bring up sophomore second baseman Brady Skipper.
Skipper doubled down the line in left to score Darden. Then sophomore outfielder Edwin Bowman IV came through with a big single to left to score Robitzsch and Skipper and make it a four run game.
Unfortunately, the UNG offense would only get one more run the rest of the game as Anderson mounted its comeback in the sixth.
A pair of lead off doubles for the Trojans made it 6-3 and then Wesley Mann connected on a two run homer to make it 6-5.
Two innings later, Mac Ketchin led off the seventh with a game tying home run. His long ball sparked a four run inning as Anderson took the lead back and ended the frame up 9-6.
Four more runs on four hits in the ninth solidified the lead and victory for the Trojans.
The Nighthawks have a quick turnaround as they'll end a 10-game home stand on Wednesday, Apr. 10 at 5 p.m. with a make up game against Emmanuel after the originally scheduled matchup was postponed due to inclement weather.
